Soul Food

Apart from our shared love for Jesus, we at OYP also share a great love for food so that tells you a little bit about our choice of words here!

But as it says in scripture,"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." - Luke 4:4

It is our hope that the stories and reflections you find here will serve to encourage and bless you on your faith journey. We hope it serves as a reminder that none of us are really alone!

My Experience at OYP

Written by Joshua Low The past five months have truly been a grace filled experience. Working in the Office for Young People(OYP) has been one of the most eventful periods of my life. This community of Christ centred individuals has helped me to realise the immense need for God among young people. In my time […]

Opening Wide The Doors To Christ – Discerning Our Vocation

by Kenneth Tham “We are short of priests, please pray for more vocations” is a common petition by the Church. This is a possible explanation why many young men are afraid of the word ‘vocation’. Vocation is derived from the Latin word vocare which means ‘to call’ and it is mostly used to imply a […]

Why go for the School of Witness?

by Melvyn Foo A question like ‘Why should I go for School of Witness(SOW)?’ does not admit of a simple answer. On one hand, there are too many reasons to go. On the other hand, all these reasons would have never convinced me before I went for SOW. Take, for example, the reason that I encountered God. […]

The Eucharist: Source and Summit

By Joveena Fernando Attending a Protestant secondary school made me curious about and question the Catholic faith that I grew up with. My family would visit Novena Church about once a month on Saturday mornings to attend Eucharistic Adoration. As a lover of tradition, it fascinated me to observe this and sing hymns that sounded […]

The Art of Asking—Boldly and Deeply

By Anonymous “Be unabashedly curious.” This was the mantra in a course I took last year that trained us to be mediators. Every position that a disputant takes has underlying interests. Every event has a history. Every facade has a face. When I shared with my community last year that I struggled with same-sex attraction […]

Finding my Kingdom Friendships

by Natasha Lowe “In friendship…we think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years’ difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another…the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting–any of these chances might […]

By Joanna Oey The following paragraphs and short comics stem from my personal experiences and daily struggles in wanting to love my family better. I have always struggled with my pride and temper at home, and it was only a few months ago that my mum briefly mentioned to my boyfriend, “she’s (me) changed a […]

Thanksgiving and Testimony: My Call to Serve

by Lisha Ann Rodney Before I entered Singapore Institute of Management Catholic Society (SIM CS), I was just a Sunday Catholic and my faith was very stagnant. I knew God, but I did not know who He was to me. Coming into SIM, I came across SIM’s FOC (Freshmen Orientation Camp) on my parish bulletin, […]
