Freedom

by Denise Dumont

The theme of freedom, both from the lies of the world and to be who God has called us to be, marked the artist’s SOW journey. In prayer, the recurring imagery of butterflies fresh from the cocoon was representative of the metamorphosis that the artist underwent. A transformation that came through healing and the reclaiming of identity as Beloved. A monarch butterfly was chosen to represent these themes. The monarch is a common butterfly species, the artist likens that to her past experience of being overlooked or feeling uncared for. However, our creator knows each aspect of every unique butterfly. Similarly, our Lord has lovingly crafted us as well, knowing and loving each intricacy of our being. It is through the claiming of this truth that the artist has been able to experience the joy it is to be themselves and to be free in the truth that we are loved beyond measure.
