Dear Friends,

God’s peace be with you! =)

As we continue on our journey, it may often feel like we cannot see the woods for the trees. However, we continue to rely on the Lord’s assurance that, “since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith …” (Hebrews 10:21-22). How grateful we are that our God never fails!

FEATURE:

ORDINARY TIME GROWTH SERIES

Even in my own life, I find it difficult to even fathom the idea of celebrating both the minor and major milestones in my faith life. It is so much easier to focus on what is lacking, and what has not materialised … the celebration of these milestones is not meant to be a celebration of our own strength. It is not the ignorance of our circumstances. Rather, it is a celebration of who God is in our lives, and who He continues to be. A reminder that He is indeed a very good, very faithful Father, who continues to restore us to wholeness.

– Gaby Spykerman⠀

We bring you more articles from our Ordinary Time Growth Series which covers the different aspects of spiritual growth and encouragement for staying the course on this journey. Let us perservere in faith!

FAITH LEVEL: GROWING

When the Well Runs Dry: Prayer Beyond the Beginnings
by Thomas H. Green

Builds on Green’s classic and bestselling primer on prayer Opening to God. This work encourages readers to re-examine their perspectives on prayer and argues that prayer has less to do with what readers do or know and more to do with what God does in them.

TESTIMONY & THANKSGIVING

Fishers of Men

OYP recently ran Fishers of Men Leadership School for our OYP Young Working Adult Communities. Over 5 days, we met on Zoom to worship, pray, share, as well as to study, preach, and testify. The Lord called each of us to “Put out into the deep and let your nets down for a catch.” (Luke 5:4). It was a time where we were called to deepen our faith and choose to follow Christ more faithfully. Our hearts were set on fire for Christ and His Church, to reach out to His sheep. TESTIMONY & THANKSGIVING

ANEW

Over the August school term, students from our Polytechnic, ITE and Private Diploma campus communities gathered on the 12th and 19th of August for formation and group sharing online as part of the ANEW session series. The sessions covered how to continue abiding in Christ as an individual and a community through prayer, sacraments and kingdom friendship. We hear from some students on what they are thankful for.

“I give thanks for learning the meaning of good and bad fruit and the power of prayer. This has helped me grow closer to God as during prayer, I pray more wholeheartedly and truly listen for His voice. I’m more open to the Lord and allowing Him to take away my bad fruits and let Him take control. ANEW has also made me feel closer to my community as we pray together, allowing for a space to be more vulnerable and open to, not only the Lord, but each other. This has given me a sense of belonging and shown me the true meaning of Kingdom Friendships and how God works through these friendships.” – Kristen Choong, Ngee Ann Polytechnic

ONGOING

RCIY

We are excited to share that the first ever Rite of Christian Initiation for Young People (RCIY) at the Cathedral by OYP started on 26 July 2020! Since then, 78 enquirers have joined us on this journey to discover who God is through the Catholic faith.

Our enquirers have been gathering online for weekly sessions where we pray together, receive formation and share about this journey. Although we have only been able to do Zoom sessions due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, we praise God that He transcends the boundaries of space to move hearts and stir faith in the hearts of our enquirers! We have been inspired by their openness and desire to seek God.

We are hopeful and look forward with expectant faith for what God will continue to do here! We invite you to pray for the enquirers as they continue to learn more about God. May God reveal Himself to them as they seek Him, and open their eyes to see the deep love He has for each of them!

If you know anyone who might be interested to discover more about God through the Catholic Church, invite them to come and see! RCIY OYP sessions take place every Sunday, 1030am to 1pm on Zoom.

Are the treasures of the world unable to satisfy your soul? Do you desire for more in your life?

“I came to this retreat broken and desperate to receive God’s Love. I was deeply hurt and had not had the time and capacity to let my heart heal. I was tired of my lapsed cycle of committing habitual sin.

I encountered the Lord through the activities at Treasure. He tugged on my heart as I knelt in front of him. I realised that God was calling me to come out of my hiding place in a small box and asking me to surrender all my shame, hurts, self-condemnation and self-pity – the lies of the world.

As I surrendered to God, He affirmed my identity as His beloved daughter; I received His love and I felt the wound in my heart being healed. During the retreat I received an image that I was hugging the Lord like a little child in the arms of a father. I felt at peace with God, no longer anxious or scared. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Jesus said to me “You are my daughter, you have been renewed, I love you and you are mine”.

I now claim the truth that Jesus is my saviour and Lord, the lover of my soul. I now know that I am a precious child of God and that my journey towards being a disciple of Christ has just begun. I was lost and now I am found.” – Angela Goh, 27, Treasure#11 Participant
