Walking Through Lent: The Look of Love

By Brendan Loy

Over this past week, we have reflected on the image of Jesus who waits at the well for us, and who desires to offer us not just drinking water for survival, but living waters for fullness of life.  Have we dared to come close to Jesus, to seek forgiveness, and to say, “Lord, there are many ways I have sought fullness of life in the world, only to be left empty. I desire to see and receive you anew?”

Jesus sees our hearts, and He is waiting for us. He did not judge the Samaritan woman despite knowing that she was living in sin. Instead, He looked at her with love because He knew that in her heart, she was looking for Him, but in all the wrong places. Many of us too continue to search for love, for acceptance, for joy, but in all the wrong places. Ultimately, we search for Jesus, the only one who can satisfy us and fill us in our places of lack. Let us not delay in repenting and returning to Him!

Reflection Question:
Begin preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What is, or has been holding you back from embracing Jesus more fully?
