Let the Light In

Reflection and illustration by Joelle Tan

Sometimes, we feel like we are broken beyond repair. We live in our darkness, sin and shame. We focus so much on our brokenness that we forget that the darkness is not our identity.

John 1:5 says, “The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”

We are created to be children of Light and to live in the Light of Christ. The Good News is that we can! Jesus desires to bring this light into the brokenness of our lives. He meets us where we are at, in our broken state. He first shines His healing light through one crack, but it eventually illuminates the other parts of our lives that we are still afraid to face. The Lord has shown me through these 8 weeks of School that He desires to fill my entire life with His light, and take me out of my darkness of self-condemnation. Though there are thoughts that I might not be good enough for Jesus to use me in my brokenness, He has reminded me that it is not so much my brokenness that I should be focusing on but rather, His love flooding my entire being. Today, the Lord also wants to be the Light in your darkness, will you live in His Light?

Dear Jesus, grant me the grace to desire You in the broken parts of my life. That I may not be overwhelmed by the fear and the dark that is present in my life but rather focus on You. I surrender my fears in facing my brokenness and I trust that You desire the best for me and all that comes from You is good. Amen!
