Reading this week’s chapters, I learnt that Jesus’ Transfiguration offers hope for transformation. By living according to the truth of the cross and the resurrection, I become free from myself to look ahead towards God in that paschal dynamism from death to life. Pope Benedict XVI describes the transfiguration of Jesus as such, a prayer experience where the spirit of the human being adheres to that of God, and their respective wills merge to become a whole.
As I reflect on this, the invitation from God has been to seek His presence, even while I am deep in my faults and my failings and even as I sense hopelessness. While ashamed of my sins and as much as they are tragic in their gravity, I am reminded that God’s forgiveness and mercy is far more immense and immeasurable and that He walks this journey of transformation with me.
Reflect & Pray:
Sit in prayer this week and contemplate Jesus on the cross. Looking at Christ, consider how you are looked at by Him. Each time a thought or desire threatens to cause you to stumble, peacefully visualise it as a piece of paper and crush it in your mind’s eye like Jesus is crushing that thought or desire. Move on and meditate on a piece of Scripture. Keep this Scripture close to your heart!
