The Lord My Promise Keeper
Drawing by Marcella Chua, music composed by Christopher Martinus
“You who hold the stars—
Who calls them each by name—
Will surely keep Your promise to me
That I will rise in Your victory.”
(Take Courage – Bethel)
As a person who loves astronomy, a night sky of stars never fails to elicit a deep sense of awe and wonder in me at God’s beauty. To think that the same God who made something so immensely majestic and utterly beautiful is the same God who is with me always is mind-boggling. Every time the Lord treats me with speckles of stars in the sky (yes, even in Singapore!), I am reminded of the promises God has made to me. If my God created the heavens that are so magnificent, how can I doubt when He promises that He has good plans for me?
In the past few weeks of SOW, through brothers and sisters in Christ around me, Jesus revealed His desire to love me and asks that I let myself be loved by Him. While the Lord assures me that His love is lavish, He reminds me that He gives me what I need instead of what I think I need (which can be incongruent at times). So often I demand things that are good but not necessarily right for me (at the time) and get disappointed when it seemed like God did not answer my prayers. Only now do I see that the goodness of His plans always far exceeds my own.
While I still find myself often struggling with entrusting the Lord with my future, He constantly reminds me that He has never failed me and that He is always for me. In all that I do and in all that I am, He is sovereign and I have nothing to fear. My life is safest in His hands and I have come to learn that the moments in which I thought the Lord had failed me were simply happy endings still in the process of completion.
Jesus gives me the grace to believe and claim that He intends to keep true to the promises He has made me and desires dreams bigger for me than any I can imagine. I now live with the knowledge that nothing in my life can compete with the joy and hope that the Lord brings me and that He holds me securely in His truly good love. He who made the stars and all things beautiful is He who stands by me. What more do I need? The Lord is my promise-keeper, and I claim the truth that I am always secure in Him!
