Holy Week: Maundy Thursday

Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” (Matthew 26:38)

In Gethsemane, Jesus invites us, like the disciples, to draw close to Him in his agony. Jesus grappled with the fear of his impending suffering and death and the seeming abandonment by God. But in the darkness of his agony, Jesus surrendered to the Father’s will. As we begin this Paschal Triduum, let us ponder on this profound act of love and obedience in Jesus’ fiat.

This Maundy Thursday, let us join Jesus in his prayer in the Garden. Will you stay awake with Him?
