OUR MISSION

RAISING UP A GENERATION FOR CHRIST

DEAR FRIENd

This issue we look at the theme of compassion and its place in the inescapable reality of suffering that we all face in our lives. In these weeks, it seems like collective suffering has become almost inadvertent and painfully unavoidable. But Scripture tells us:

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.“ – Isaiah 43:2

Friends, Jesus invites us to lean into him in these troubling times. There are no easy platitudes or fixes, but there is JESUS, and He is HERE!

In these times when our optimism may be waning, let us hold fast to prayer and allow the Lord to be the renewer of our HOPE!

TESTIMONY & THANKSGIVING

GUR 2021

The practice of gratitude has never been more needed and important than it is right now. We take a look back at the Graduating Uni Students Retreat, which was a spiritual commencement of sorts for our graduating university students, and we praise the Lord for the blessed weekend with Him! Here are some stories of the  good works that He has done in the lives of the participants below. May their thanksgivings resonate with you and remind you of God’s goodness in your own lives as well!

FAITH FORMATION

ON SUFFERING &COMPASSION

As we continue with our series on suffering, we look at compassion and its significance in trying times.

“In carrying my own cross and allowing Christ in, I have received new knowledge on the weight of the cross and how to bear it.” – Gwyneth Koh

Read on for more on how Jesus revealed the deeper truth of compassion through her work as a nurse.

COMPASSION: A REFLECTION ON THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

“God wants to bring joy not pain, peace not war, healing not suffering … we must be willing to ask ourselves where in the midst of our pains and sufferings we can discern the loving presence of God.” – Henri J.M. Nouwen, Compassion: A Reflection on the Christian Life

Is it enough to live a life in which we hurt one another as little as possible? Is our guiding ideal a life of maximum pleasure and minimum pain? These are the questions that are tackled in this essay on the virtue of compassion. Can we be moved to see compassion as a force of prayer and action — the expression of God’s love for us? Have a read and discover more!
