Art Reflections: Mary’s Grotto

by Rachel Sim

Mother Mary holds a really special place in my heart as my spiritual mother so this picture was drawn as a little gift to her on Mother’s Day!!

As I thought about what I wanted to offer to Mary as a Mother’s Day gift, I was drawn to this Grotto at Church of the Nativity. For those who know me, this grotto is a place I hold very dearly to my heart and has been my place of refuge countless of times.

Sitting before the glorious statue of Mary, I am surrounded by immense love and grace which holds the pieces of my breaking heart together. It has been at this grotto where I’ve experienced the maternal embrace of Mary as she interceded for me in my lowest of lows. Her powerful intercessions have brought me from the darkest valleys to the tallest of mountains. In her simplicity in love for Jesus, she has taught me how to love Jesus and others too.

He died, rose from the dead and yet, continues to accompany us daily.
